High profile day robbery is reportedly taking place at the Nigerian Airforce Base on Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
Narrating his ordeal, to The Newswriter, a man who has fallen victim to the robbery syndicate at the Airforce Gate said he was last Wednesday June 5, 2013 between 4:40pm and 5:20pm forced to drive into the Airforce Gate in the name of violating traffic offence, only to be robbed by plain coat security personnel who paraded themselves as a policeman and a Airforce officer.
The victim (name withheld) who said he works with Oil Exploration and Production Company at Rumuobiakani alleged that the purported claimed policeman jumped into his car after forcing him into the Airforce Base Gate and searched his car, under the supervision of the Aiforce personnel, making away with N10,000 after he has voluntarily given them N3,000 in his pocket.
According to him, after collecting the N10,000, the plain coat policeman who identified himself as Pius Dimkpa of the Nigerian Police Force and claimed to have come from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State asked the victim to take him to an ATM machine at Best Bite building opposite the Airforce Gate to withdraw more money since according to him, the N10,000 was not enough for the fluke traffic offence.
The victim who said he had vowed to raise alarm had the so-called Dimkpa followed him to any ATM machine. This was not to be as the “Airforce Crook’ went down from the vehicle when he wanted to drive him to an ATM machine to collect more money.
The Oil Exploration and Production Company staff and victim of the unfortunate incident said he wonders how such level of crime could exist in the premises of the much respected Nigerian Airforce Base without the knowledge of the authorities concerned.
He therefore called on the commander of the Airforce Base and all other relevant authorities to beam searchlight on the activities of officers at the Airforce gate junction.
He also advised the public to be weary of robbers who posed at government security officers at the junction.###
