Police Quizzes Lloyd For Attempted Murder

The Nigerian police has detained pro-Amaechi Rivers State lawmaker, Chidi Lloyd, over a brutal assault carried out on a colleague, Michael Chinda, who is hospitalized in London.

Mr. Lloyd was detained by the police when he showed up at their headquarters Tuesday at about 5p.m. Nigerian time. A source at the Rivers State Government House said Mr. Lloyd made a statement to the police and was told to return the next day for further interrogation.

Mr. Lloyd is under investigation for the July 9 fracas during which he attacked Michael Chinda with a  mace.

Mr. Lloyd claims that his attack against Chinda was due to provocations by Evans Bipi, the lawmaker who led a renegade group of lawmakers to invade the House of Assembly to attack him and his colleagues.  Mr. Bipi, who he said to be is close relative of the Nigerian First Lady was quoted to have described her as his “Jesus Christ”.

In addition to Mr. Lloyd, the police authorities are also investigating the Chief Security Officer to the governor, as well as his aide-de-camp, for some reason, they did not invite Mr. Bipi and his colleagues.###
