RSSB Commences Payment To Students On Scholarship

Rivers State Scholarship Board (RSSB) has commenced the last payment of 200 students who were on  State Scholarship.    The Secretary RSSB, Sir Sam N. Deekue speaking on the development, urged all affected persons who have not collected their cheques to do so immediately. He thanked the Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for bringing the dividends of democracy to the 200 beneficiaries. Speaking Mr. Anero Nnamdi,  a lecturer in Rivers State Ignatus Ajuru University and beneficiary ,expressed appreciation on behalf of other beneficiaries to the State Governor for the gesture, saying that it has helped them undertake various academic programmes.

“We hope that the good thing he has started be sustained” we also hope that the amount would be reviewed upward because some of us in Science spent about N2 million to procure facilities to carry out research work”. “Mathematically speaking therefore, the Scholarship has provided a succour to us and we are grateful to the Governor and RSSB for facilitating the payment”, Mr. Nnamdi added.

He however decried the delay in the payment, saying “Some of us have borrowed money in course of the programme on which interest has to be paid”. Also speaking, other recipients, Hon. Tobin Owuso, a former commissioner in Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission commended the effort of the State Government in assisting 200 Rivers students undergoing PHD Programme in various Universities in the county.

According to Hon Owuso, “This will increase the number of PHD holders who will in turn impart their knowledge to students” and added that similar effort should be encouraged in other areas.
