Sanitation Authority To Shut Down Oyigbo Dumping Site

The Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority has concluded plan to shut down Oyigbo Refuse Dumping Site for a newly acquired one in Emohua LGA.

In a chat with journalists during this month environmental sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt, Mr. Ade Adeogun the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority said the authority to acquire another refuse dumping site became necessary as the Oyigbo Dumping Site has been filled up and has began to get offensive odour.

The Sole Administrator who spoke through his Press Officer, Mr. Olalekan Ige expressed sympathy with the people of Oyigbo especially those close to the dumping site said the land for the project has been acquired in Emohua LGA, pointing out that the dumping site in the area will commence operation’s as soon as the construction is been completed.

On why the authority has not done the sanitation exercise for the past three months, he disclosed that the authority has not hold the exercise for three months was due to the General Certificate of Education, GCE that was going on and the burial of the late, Mrs. Charity Oba the foster Mother of Dame Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of Goodluck Jonathan President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the period.

The Sole Administrator who frowned at the poor compliance of the residents of Port Harcourt in the sanitation exercise disclosed that not less than 60% defaulters were arrested during the exercise, adding that there was nothing special in the December Sanitation exercise rather everyone should join hands with the State Government to clean their environments.###
