2015: Party Chief Predicts Political Upheaval In Rivers If…

A political bigwig in Rivers State, Dr. Pax Harry, has warned against attempts by any of the political parties to tamper with the existing political formula that rotates its governorship between the upland and riverine parts of the state.

Harry who spoke with journalists in Abuja, weekend, said that it was the turn of the Kalabari-speaking people of the state to produce the next governor in 2015, having not produced one since the creation of the state in 1967.

Harry, who was a member of the Justice KayodeEsho-led Rivers Truth and Reconciliation Commission, pointed out that it would be wrong for the upland part of the state to attempt to preside over the affairs of the state after Dr. Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi might have held sway for 16 years.

He said any move by any upland politician to rule the state in 2015 would have sidelined the Kalabari people and other riverine natives for over 24 years, thereby marginalising them for no just cause.

Harry warned that those who were trying to abolish the existing rotation of governorship between the upland and riverine parts of the state, were doing so for selfish reasons as same was capable of plunging the state into avoidable political upheaval.

According to Harry, the struggle by some upland politicians to take a shot at the Government House shortly after Governor Amaechi, was borne out of disrespect and insensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of the riverine people, of which the Kalabari are an integral part.
