Unpaid Salaries: Chairman Cautions Civil Servants Against Strike

Worried by the insinuation making rounds the State that the civil servants in Rivers State will soon embark on strike action over non payment of over two months salaries by the state government, the chairman of the Rumu-woji Mile One Market, Deacon Kenneth Eze has cautioned them against such move, rather should be patience and make peace with the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi till the incoming government takes over.

Deacon Eze gave the advise while in a chat with journalists in his office at Rumu-woji Mile One market in Port Harcourt.

Deacon Eze who noted that the non payment of workers salaries for some months did not only affect Rivers State but cut across the federation due to the dwindle of federal revenue allocation, advised workers to see reasons with Governor Amaechi.

Deacon Eze pointed out that Governor Amaechi has been paying workers salaries regularly in the past until the dwindle of the federal revenue allocation which affected almost all the states.

Deacon Eze who noted that leadership is not all about enjoyment alone, rather a leader occupying such position as governor of a state should be expected to inherit debts and some funds in the government coffers by the outgoing administration and advised the incoming administration to consolidate on the achievements of the past administration especially the payment of workers salaries which the past administration had left behind because he is expected to enjoy both good and bad inherited from the past government.

According to him, “when I came on board as the chairman of the Rumu-woji Mile One market, I inherited some debts from my predecessor which I later tackled”.

Commenting on some debtors who became fugitive when those they owe came to collect their money from them, Deacon Eze noted that such is not good character because it portrays such person in a bad light and advised that any one should not run away when the creditors came to collect their money.

Deacon Eze who hinted that his tenure will expire next month had indicated interest for another tenure.   ###
