Power Outage: Borikiri Residents Go Tough On PHED

Residents of Borikiri have openly come out to condemn the two weeks power outage of Port Harcourt Electrical Distribution Company (PHEDC), that have paralyzed their business activities and the security (Navy/Police) operatives in the area.
The residents said though power was restored on Monday’s night on hearing a planned protest, they were not happy with the Port Harcourt Electrical Distribution Company for keeping them in darkness without any reason.
Speaking with our correspondent, the chairman of Egbema close (Amakiri Polo) waterfront, Hon. Iriso Opekerebia condemned the attitude of Port Harcourt Electricity Distriuction Company (PHEDC), saying that they have passed vote of no confidence in the business manager and PHEDC itself.
“For the fact that the management and field team of PHEDC cannot rectify minor electricity fault for more than two weeks, it means analogue, instead of digital”, adding that the essence of power outage with Borikiri area as to thwart the good effort of Governor Nyesom Wike, is he has good intentions for the residents of Borikiri. Hon. Opekerebia, a former Ogu/Bolo legislator, further maintained that Borikiri has no electricity fault, but it is a deliberate act to keep the residents in total blackout, which ultimately affects the security (Navy, police, Navy Hydro and Health) centre operations in the area.
“Without power supply how can the operations of the security work or how will the security work or how will the security personnel identify a hoodlums in the night?, he queried.
He argued that there should be consumers’ Right Commission, a payment for the residents within the power outage weeks, while calling on the House of Assembly member of the constituency, Hon. Tonye Adoki and the governor to always establish a closer relationship with the people of Borikiri, adding that at second tenure they will still vote for Barr. Wike.
Other residents and some security personnel promised same after a protest in the month of June last year. We also followed suit to pass vote of no confidence against PHEDC” they concluded.
However, this medium gathered in an unofficial source that in a bid to repairing a faulty high tension wire, a staff of PHEDC has sustained injuries and subsequently being hospitalized in an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment. ###
