PH: Gunmen Get Loose, Kill Two In Rivers Judiciary

musa kimoEmerging security reports from Rivers state say gunmen suspected to be militants have launched a failed attack on the Federal Prisons in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
In correlation to the attack on the Prison, two people have also been killed by the same group of suspected militants in the Rivers State Judiciary complex, Port Harcourt.
Though reasons for the coordinated attacks are still sketchy, unconfirmed information has it that the attacks are not unconnected to the proposed arraignment of three suspects standing trial over the alleged killing of a Niger-Delta warlord, Soboma George.
Soboma George was killed 6 years ago by gunmen at number six field in Town, Port Harcourt.
The Newswriter Newspaper gathered that one of the security operatives was strangled to death while the other died by the bullets. Another security operative was brutally wounded with matchet wounds.
The incident was said to have happened around 3 am on Tuesday.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, who visited the scene of the killings, said, “the action is regrettable but we assure our Judiciary workers of their safety and we will ensure that the perpetrators of this act will be found.”
Efforts to get the situation at the Port Harcourt prisons have been difficult as the Controller and Deputy Controller of prisons are unreachable.
But a source in the Prisons told our correspondent that there were heavy gunshots at the prisons late Monday night with the gunmen launching an attack on the prisons from Bundu Waterside in the Town axis of Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed-up in and around the court premises and the area has been cordoned off.
