PH: 82 Arrested Over Sanitation Offences

No fewer than 82 defaulters of the environmental sanitation exercise have been arrested by the officials of the sanitation authority.

Dr. Ugochukwu Nmegbu the Head of Operations, Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority (RSESA) dropped the hint in a chat with journalists shortly after this month environmental sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Nmegbu who frowned at the manner some residents of Port Harcourt walk about, as well as play football  during sanitation hours, warned them to desist from such act, rather should be conscious of cleaning their environment on daily basis, especially during sanitation hours, adding that good healthy environment will prevent them from sickness.

He further called on residents of Port Harcourt and its environs to support the state government, as well as the sanitation authority by cleaning their environment to actualize their goal of making Port Harcourt one of the most cleanest states in the federation.

In a chat with journalists, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation, Mr. Ade Adeogun expressed the need for clean environment and urged residents of Port Harcourt and its environs to always report to the authority on the grey areas, as the officials of sanitation authority cannot be everywhere to enable them tackle the situation.

Commenting on the Creek Road environmental hazard, the Sole Administrator who was represented by his press secretary, Mr. Olalekan Ige revealed that the problem in Creek Road market was the incompletion of the road, assuring that once the road is completed it will be better.

On the reason why only the sanitation authority officials went to Bundu Waterfront during sanitation hours, Ige disclosed that the visit was occasioned by a report written by Kinabuta, an international NGO based in Lagos to the authority to assist them sanitize the area, stressing that as a responsible agency the authority joined them to clean the area.

He commended members of the NGO for ensuring clean environment in the area and urged them not to relent, assuring that the sanitation authority will always support them to actualize their target in ensuring clean environment in the state.

Places visited include Rumuola, Aba Road, Bundu Waterfront, Town axis, Diobu, Rumuokoro, among others. ###
