Meanwhile, Rivers State Commissioner for Works Hon. Victor Giadom said, the New Layout Market in Port Harcourt Metropolis would soon be opened for business again.

Hon. Giadom said this while answering questions from newsmen in his office recently.

He disclosed that a State Cabinet Committee on the allocation of the market stalls and shops had already been inaugurated, and will soon complete its work.

”The Cabinet Committee was put in place to allocate the stalls or shops to traders as soon as possible, I am sure, the committee will complete its work and traders will go back to the market,” Hon. Giadom said.

He assured that the reconstruction works on the market building has been completed, and noted that the traders would go back to their shops when the cabinet committee has completed its job.

Hon. Giadom advised traders to exercise patience and allow the committee to do proper job.

It would be recalled that Governor Chibuike Amaechi awarded the contract to construct an Ultra-Modern Market to O. K. Isokariari & Sons Nigeria Limited in 2008 at the cost of N3.5billion to ensure that the traders moved from the old shanties.
