Abuja Igbo Traders Murder: MASSOB Calls For Sit-At-Home

Following the brutal killing of 6 Igbo traders at Apo, Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory on June 8, 2005, by policemen led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ibrahim Danjuma and the failure of the federal government to prosecute the killers, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has declared a sit-at-home protest for all Igbos and indigenous people of Biafra on June 8, 2013.

In a statement signed by the MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, and made available to The Newswriter, the group expressed regret that the killers of the Igbo traders are still walking about as free men despite being indicted by the Justice Olasumbo Goodluck’s Commission of Inquiry which exonerated the murdered Igbo traders from the armed robbery allegation leveled against them by their killers.

“The Apo 6 killing is one of the numerous killings of Ndigbo in Nigeria that have gone with little or no consequence. It is due to the insecurity of lives and property of Ndigbo in Nigeria that propels MASSOB to clamour for the state of Biafra… it is on this promise that MASSOB requests Ndigbo all over the world to sit at home on June 8, 2013, to reflect on the continued and unprovoked massacre of our people in Nigeria”, the statement said within the period of the sit-at-home, Ndigbo are required to fast and pray to God for their emancipation. The planned sit-at-home protest will start from 6.00am and will end at 4.00pm. This exercise is expected to be anchored on the principle of non-violence, the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the MASSOB Regional Administrator, Rivers East and Chairman, Rivers Regional Administrators Forum, Chief Chukwu Solomon, has called on all Biafrans in Port Harcourt to cooperate with MASSOB by observing the sit-at-home directive, while Engr. Boniface Nnachi, MASSOB Regional Administrator, Rivers West who condemned the act, appealed for calm by MASSOB members. ###
