Federal Lawmaker Makes Case For Constituency Name

The lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Dakuku Peterside has complained that the correct name of the constituency, Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency is not in the record of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as such it could not reflect on his earlier certificate of return issued in 2011.

The lawmaker made the complaint in a stakeholders meeting of the constituency recently in Port Harcourt.

According to Peterside, who said his several protests on the issue have hit the brick wall, hence the need to bring it home so that every body can look into the matter and proffer solution.

Also presented to the people was the issue of state creation, according to him though he did not see any sign that states will be created, has not signed any paper on which state the constituency should belong to.

The Parliamentarian further stated that he is not on his own but representing the people of the constituency, hence should be directed on the choice Bori State or the Oil Rivers State.

After thorough deliberations by participants, Peterside, the two council chairmen of Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas, Hon. Orom Nte Ereforokuma and Hon. Bethel Uranta respectively, leaders of the two LGA legislative councils, as well as the councils vice chairmen were given the mandate to petition the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), to correct the anomaly in the name of the constituency, to bear Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency.

Peterside said that his position is a call to serve, trust, sheer responsibility, thanking the people for responding to his invitation, describing their respond as love for the growth of the constituency.

The Federal Lawmaker further said that he has sponsored many bills in the House, including illegal possession of fire arms and played important roles in the ongoing debate on Petroleum Industry Bill.

He said he has also carried out several developmental projects in the area and highlighted number of students who have gotten scholarship from him to study overseas. ###
