The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has reiterated his administration commitment to build a world class university in the state.
He was speaking at the Rivers State university of Science and Technology, 26th convocation ceremony for the conferment of Higher and bachelors degrees award, and prizes at the institutions arena, Nkpolu Oroworkwu in Port Harcourt city LGA.
Gov. Amaechi said the new university of Science and Technology sited at the Greater Port Harcourt City in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State which is under construction will be completed within one year and six months, advising the contractors to ensure its completion within the period.
He commended Prof. Barineme Beke Fakae for his excellence performance assuring that his administration will do its best to support the institution to achieve its desired goal and promised to establish medical school in the university.
Earlier in his speech the Pro-chancellor and the chairman of Governing Council of the institution, Justice A.G Karibi-Whyte JSC (RTD) said the 11th Governing Council of the institution has started to consolidate on the gains of intervention of the visitor and policies of council and charting a new course, awards academic excellence and creativities in the institution and commended governors Amaechi for his encouragement and untiring support in all regards.
He congratulated the graduands on their achievements and successes stressing that they have made their parents proud.
In his speech Prof. Fakae, the Vice Chancellor while congratulating the graduands on being found worthy in character and learning to deserve the degrees of the university, disclosed that three graduands got first class, second class upper were 305, second class 2, 218, third class division 1,587, while the total was 4,298 graduands.
He further disclosed that the PGD were 49, masters 457, PHD 20 while the total was 526.
Professor Fakae while commending Governor Amaechi and other public and private organizations including public private spirited individuals who contributed to the success of the convocation enumerated some of the achievements of the institution under his administration to include: RSUST Corporate Society Projects, NUC accreditation of courses, quality assurance academic programmes, students welfare, RSUST best student scholarship award, staff welfare donations, infrastructural development among others.
In her speech the best graduating graduand of the institution, Miss Anthonia Chidinma Izuegbunem while thanking the Vice Chancellor as well as the staff and the entire management of the institution for honouring her, attributed her success to the hard working of the Vice Chancellor and the lecturers who impacted their knowledge on her.
She thanked her parents for the opportunity given to her and promised to be a good ambassador of the university. ###
