Again, 3 Shot Dead In Rivers, Victims’ Wives Seek Justice

Three persons have been shot dead by gunmen in Ihuowo community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The killings occurred few weeks after alleged assassination of three men in Amadi Ama, near Port Harcourt.

In the Ahoada East incident, the killers, who stormed the residences of the victims at about 1a.m. through Somberere River, killed three persons, identified as George Asha and two brothers simply identified as the Ojenamas.

According to the wife of one of the victims, Mrs. Faith Ojenama, her husband, Promise, was shot dead when he refused to open their door for the gunmen.

“Before we knew ourselves, they pushed the door; both of them were struggling with the door; we heard the gunshot. He (Promise) then fell down; they pushed the door, came in and started shooting anyhow. He did not have problem with anybody in the community. He did not have quarrel with anybody,” she lamented.

Meanwhile, wives of the victims have appealed to the state government and the security agencies to unravel the killers of their husbands.

The widows made the appeal when the lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency II in the state House of Assembly, Ibiso Nwuche, visited the area.

In his response, Nwuche appealed to the people of Ihuowo community to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies in the area of information to unravel the killers.

He assured the community members of government’s support and promised to relate the challenges and demands for gunboats in Somberere river to the governor and security agencies.

Also, Chairman of Ahoada East Caretaker Committee, Andy Nweye, said he and the security agents had always been in the community to help build confidence in the community members and persuade them not to run away, as the security agents were in the area to protect them.
