Rivers State Vigilante Group To Embark On Security Training…As Command rescued Abandoned Baby

Arrangement is now on going to conduct a 5 day internal security training for men and officers of the Vigilant Group of Nigeria, VGN, Rivers State Command.

This was made known at the end of the State and Local Government Exco meeting held at VGN Secretariat in Port Harcourt, by the State Commandant, Mr. Mambo Wilcox, who said that his vision to constitute VGN in most states of the South- South and South—East was to ensure that the people are properly integrated in the business and activities of the body, and not on a personal gain.

Wilcox, who commended the VGN, Andoni District Command, under Commander Sylvanus E. S. in Andoni LGA of the state for their prompt response to the case of an abandoned Baby boy that was reported to it by the Command Women Leader, Gogo Mbeneinyi Festus and Finipiri Atausen E., also lauded Chief U. H. Okwawo and the sister who spotted and carried the baby to men of the VGN in the area.

The State Commandant further stressed that shortly after his men handed over the baby to the Nigeria Police in Andoni, that they swung into an investigation action through Ward 1 Ngo Road, where the baby was dumped and subsequently apprehended one Miss Peace Richard Unwene at Ibotinyaahubong, Ngo Town in Andoni, who is the mother of the Baby boy and handed her over to the police for further actions.

Wilcox however, appreciated efforts of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Ogunsakin and men of the Joint Task Force, JTF, operating in the state, adding that the police have assisted VGN in their quest to protect lives and property in all nooks and crannies of the 23 LGAs in the state.

The Rivers State VGN Commandant, however lauded men and officers of the JTF and other security agencies in the state, for their prompt and swift responses to distress calls, when and wherever they are called upon. He was optimistic that God in his infinite mercy will not allow the labour and selfless services that the people of Rivers State have offered to their father land through VGN, to go unrewarded.

In the same vein, Mr. Oluyemi S. Olaiya, Chief Executive Officer of Osjones International Services Limited, whose security out-fit conducted the first national Seminar for men and officers of VGN in Abuja in 2013 and subsequently in Kwara, Kebbi, Ekiti, Oyo and Niger States among others, noted that the conference would at the end of the day reposition men and officers of VGN in Rivers State Command on the primary and other rudiments in the management of security.

Mr. Olaiya, also pointed out that the first 4 days of the 5 day programme will dwell extensively on training, while the 5th day will be used to recognize the traditional rulers in the state, make a presentation to personalities, corporate organizations for their support and recognition of the VGN struggle in their respective areas in the state.

The security consultant also stated that the conference would create an avenue for state awareness of the VGN, bridge the gap between VGN and other security agencies and for the special guests to give their good will messages at the end of the seminar.

On the benefits of the conference, Olaiya opined that the training and retraining exercise will equip members of VGN to be ready for government takeover, know the physical rudiments, and to be acquainted with codes and signs in order to work with other security agencies

In his advice, Olaiya urged men and officers of Rivers VGN not to be weary in the struggle, stressing that those that may got weary along the line, may have themselves to be blamed at the end of the day and further enjoined them to endeavour to attend the conference in order for them to be fully integrated in the system, reiterating that those states that undergone their trainings are now fully recognized by their states, and believed God that Rivers State will follow suit at the end of the conference that will kick start from the 26th – 30th August, 2014 in the state. ####
