Bayelsa: Ijaw Group Condemns Burning Down Of Monarch’s Palace

A group, the Bayelsa Ijaw Community in Rivers State, has condemned the burning down of the palace of the traditional ruler of Peremabiri community in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State, HRH Progress Neverdie, by suspected arsonists.
This is as the group accused a former militant leader in the local government area (names withheld) of diverting N14 million belonging to the Southern Ijaw Oil and Gas Committee to a private bank account.
Chairman of the group, Chief Okoya Warri, who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, alleged that property worth millions of naira was lost in the attack on the monarch’s palace.
Warri accused some youths in Peremabiri community, who are loyal to the ex-militant leader of being behind the arson on the traditional ruler’s palace.
The group leader alleged that Neverdie’s face-off with the former militant is traceable to the traditional ruler’s refusal to take sides with one of the major political parties during the rerun elections in the local government area on January 5, 2016.
He called on the Bayelsa State government to investigate the role of the former militant leader and his boys during the supplementary elections in Southern Ijaw as well as in the crisis rocking Peremabiri community.
