I.G Solicits Nigerians Assistance To Fight Crime …As He Visits Rivers State

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has called on Nigerians as well as the government to always assist the police through donations, providing of useful information that could lead to apprehending criminals.
Mr. Abubakar made the call during his visit to Rivers state at a stakeholders meeting held at the police officers mess in Port Harcourt.
The police IG who noted that Nigerian citizens deserve access to water, electricity, good education and security, hinted that the present administration under his leadership is also making effort towards attitudinal change.
According to him, “An officer learns more when he is sent abroad for training. If Nigerian police are adjudged as the best in foreign missions, why are they not performing in Nigeria? We have also directed all the commissioners of police in various states to have stakeholders meeting at their various divisions.”
Mr. Mohammed further disclosed that about 45,000 policemen are presently undergoing training in different areas on prevention and control as well as safety management, with a view to enhance security network.
A breakdown of the figure proved that 20,000 policemen are on training in security, another 15,000 to fight terrorism and 10,000 for safety management to improve capacity building of the police for efficiency as well as safe-guarding lives and properties of the citizens. He said government and Nigerians assistance would help them do more.
“Our challenges are enormous, now in Nigeria its either you are poor or rich. The middle class has been thrown out, parents have also abandoned their responsibilities of keeping watch on their children, we have observed that those between the ages of 18 and 50 are mostly involved in crime, policemen are not spirits but human beings. Where are these criminals? We must know what our neighbour is doing.”
According to him, “The era of collecting money for bail is over, the era of women not taking somebody on bail is over. This is because there is no law backing the development. If such cases exist it should be directed to the commissioner of police. “police stations, commissioners of police house and all public places and the police must serve the people, they are there to assist every Nigerian who need assistance, road block is gone forever and forever for good, it has done more damaging to the police, no body is now accusing police of collecting money there should be no bribery and corruption as well as harassment of citizens at the state criminal investigation department SCID” stressing that the police are working for Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan to make Nigeria good.
The places visited includes Government House, Police Officers Mess, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat, and Police Headquarter, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. ###
