War on Fakes: NAFDAC Impounds Fake Chelsea, Dry Gin, others

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Nigeria says it has confiscated and impounded at least 500 cartons of fake and adulterated Chelsea, Dry Gin and Squadron Dark Rum worth about N3 million in Port Harcourt Metropolis.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the agency-south south zone Mr. Cyril Monye said the raid was carried out by NAFDAC in collaboration with manufacturers of the real product and a detachment of the police from the Force Headquarters, Port Harcourt.
The raid according to information reaching The Newswriter was in consonance with the war against fakery in Nigeria and covered the Creek Road Market, Mile 1 market Diobu and Mile 3 Market respectively.
According to the statement, four persons were arrested, two from the creek Road market namely Jane Ikemefuna and Ndubuisi Amaefuna while Nkiruka Adieme and Mike Akagu were arrested at Mile 1 Diobu and Mile 3 market.
Mercy Ndukwe, Regulatory officer of NADFAC who led the operation said the arrested individuals will face the full weight of the law after investigations counseling that people should strive to buy whatever they need from the right sources in order to avoid buying adulterated products. She said the confiscated items have been taken to NADFAC office where they will be destroyed. ####
