Aluu Killings, Most Despicable – Rivers State PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers state has described as despicable the recent killing of four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt at Aluu, in Ikwerre local government area of the state by yet-to-be identified persons. Saying it was an act “most barbaric, chilling and inexplainable,” the party said it was shocked at the misfortune that cut short the precious lives of the four lads.
Quoting the state chairman of the party, Chief Godspower U. Ake MFR, the state publicity secretary, George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, lamented what he said was the wild display of hatred shown by those who killed the young men and in the bizarre manner they did.
“That act is an anti-thesis to the efforts at value re-orientation being championed by the Administration in the state,” the spokesman said.
Ukwuoma-Nwogba who said the state chairman of the party was shaken by the incident condemned a situation where people resorted to extra-judicial arbitration when the Nigeria Police and other statutory arms of the judicial system would have exerted due justice.
“Resort to extra-judicial self-help in matters of conflict as was the case in the Aluu killings only promotes more lawlessness. The police and other security agencies in Rivers state have been trained and equipped to respond to issues of conflict. The PDP therefore wonders why those who felt aggrieved did not seek justice in a conventional manner.
“The PDP sympathises with the victims’ families, management, staff and students of the University of Port Harcourt over the unfortunate incident,” the statement further stated, praying it never re-occurs. Ukwuoma-Nwogba further called for restraints of reprisal attacks while calling on law enforcement agents “to double their efforts at policing the corridors of possible violence.”
In sympathising with Ikwerre local government, Ukwuoma-Nwogba commended the Rivers state government on its pro-active response to the cases of flooding in 5 councils of the state. The PDP publicity secretary commended Governor Chibuike Amaechi on his prompt response in visiting flooded areas and extending relief to affected communities.
“What the state government needs now is the support of all in tackling the flood menace.
“Nothing short of that would show the state population as reciprocal of the government’s genuine intentions.”
