Reptiles Take Over Yenagoa, As Flood Ravage Communities

Report reaching our news desk has it that part of Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State has been taken over by snakes and hippopotamus, making life difficult as terrible hunger now ravages the residents of the city.
Our source who called through telephone revealed that for the people to get garri, one of the stable food commodities of the place has become so scarce, to the extent that, the only available one has attracted sky rocking price.
A tin of custard container they say now sells for two thousand five hundred naira (N2500), people who have relatives in Port Harcourt are playing the messiah role as food item such as garri is being sent to those whose houses are not submerged.
Sad enough, many affected souls are making their journey to Port Harcourt for rescue. The state government has closed down all schools in the state till the situation changes, as the flood keeps increasing by the day.
In another development a mother was arrested courtesy of her matcheting her own baby, while hunting for the fishes that came with the flood. The police they said have arrested her, according to our correspondent.
Here in Rivers State similar fate has befallen communities. Ahoada East and West, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, are seriously submerged by flood. Residents of these communities have become refugees of their own community, as they do not have home to call their home. People where seen climbing trees to shelter themselves, big drums now serve as their soups and food items.
Schools in these areas are closed down also as in most cases, the school buildings serve as living rooms to accommodate the homeless residents.
At Yenagoa, the governor has pronounced Samson Siasia Stadium as a place of settlement for all those that are affected by the flood in the city. ###
