Mother of the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Comfort Renner Ikuru, was yesterday conferred with the “Peculiar Virtuous Mother” award in recognition of her contributions to the growth of the Church and her exemplary leadership qualities.
The award was conferred on her at the 2013 Mothering Sunday at St. Simon’s (Ang.) Church, Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of the State.
Presenting the award, President of the Mothers Union/Women’s Guild, Andoni Archdeaconry and wife of the Archdeacon/Vicar, Evangelist (Mrs.) Atauche Ogbidor, said Mama Ikuru was singled out among her peers because of her sterling antecedents in the Anglican Communion.
“We give honour to whom honour is due and celebrate our mothers today while they are alive and strong to partake in their own celebration of achievements and legacies as it involves the Church and people generally,” she said, adding that their tireless efforts to the growth of the Mothers Union/Women’s Guild cannot go unnoticed.

Earlier, in her sermon titled “Be Still and Know that I am God”, the guest minister, Dr. Julia Finomo, charged Christians to remain committed, focused and faithful to God, stating that “as mothers, you must learn how to be still and courageous in God, trusting God for all solution,” adding that “they that know their God shall be strong and do exploits”.
Other women honoured at the service included, Lady Mercy Ernest Ikuru, as “Peculiar Mother of Faith” and Madam Gloria Urombo, as “Peculiar Mother of Encouragement”.
Dignities at the service included former National Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, his wife, Pastor Helpmeet Ene Secondus, Okan-Ama of Ikuru Town, King (Sir) Aaron Ikuru, Chief Lawson Ikuru, Archdeacon/Vicar, Venerable Atanfut Ogbidor, amongst others.
