Science Teachers Advocate Computer Teaching Method

 

The ongoing science teachers’ workshop in Port Harcourt is advocating for the use of computer Technology in practical demonstration of Science education in the country.

The workshop which is organized by the Chartered Institute of Educational Management and Administration in collaboration with science teachers association of Nigeria, Rivers State branch, held at Model Girls secondary school, Rumuene, Port Harcourt on Tuesday 16th April, 2013.

Speaking to newsmen earlier the coordinator of the programme Evang. Mrs. Miracle Belloski said the aim of the workshop is to sensitize both government, private and owners of public school on the use of model equipment in teaching students.

Mrs. Belloski maintained that the use of computer in teaching is very important in the present day of computer age noting, that with the aid of computer and other teaching aid student can understand easily especially science subjects more in schools and colleges.

The educationist stated that for Nigeria to move forward educationally in science an technology, science teachers must be encourage to use computer equipment to teach.

The soft spoken evangelist stated that if state and local government can encourage and embrace the new teaching aid, science subjects will be easy to learn.

The chairman, Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) Nedininuka Elechi said that there is no way science teachers will slack back in using model equipment in teaching adding that its only workshop like this that will awaken them and gear them to the use of computer asking participants of the workshop to make proper use of whatever they study as it will benefit them and their students as well.

Dr. David Okunola, Regional Director CIEMA in his speech said that the expectation of the workshop is to make participants returned to computer science with model equipment and to impact knowledge on how to use computer in model day teaching.

Okunola who is a collaborator in the programme said that the use of projector will enhance the study of science subjects as it ex-ray the demonstration of the particular subject on the screen. ###
