NLC: Onwusoanya Emerges Women Committee Chairperson In Rivers State

 

The election of Women Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Rivers State chapter, has produced Comr. Mrs. Edina Onwuasoanya of the Medical and Health Workers Union emerging the chairman of the council for the next four years.

In his remarks while announcing the result, the returning officer for the election and the National President of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG), Comr. Achese Igwe urged the women to be more active in union activities. He questioned why the women cannot produce president or governor of a state in the country with their number.

In her acceptance speech after inauguration, Comr. Onwuasoanya said she thanked God for making the conference successful, as well as the NLC chairman in the state, Chief Chris Oruge for his fatherly support to their union. The new chairman also thanked the delegates for participating actively in the 2nd delegates conference of the union and promised to carry everybody along in her administration. Mrs. Onwuasoanya equally pledged to ensure that all the lapses experienced in the previous administrations are checked.

Earlier, the NLC chairman in Rivers State, Comr. (Chief) Chris Oruge congratulated the women for a successful delegates conference and promised that NLC under his leadership will always partner with them.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion include Comr. Prince Addah Williams, the Vice chairman of NLC, Rivers State council.

Other elected members of the new executive are, Comr. Martie Tobin West (Vice Chairman), Comr. Dagogo Bob-Manuel Ngo (secretary), Comr. Stella Ozuoka (Assistant secretary) Ibinye Iyalla and  Comr. Omoba Blue-Jack (Ex-officio). ###
