No Truth In N100m Bribe Allegation- TUC

The allegation leveled against leaders of the organized labour that labour was bribed 100 million naira to embarked on strike has been denied and described as an insult to labour.

Comrade Chika Onuegbu who debunk the allegation explained that organized labour owed it workers the responsibility of defending and representing their interest in the state, adding that what is happening in Obio/Akpor local government against labour and if labour fold its hand it will mean sacrificing the joy of the workers on the altar of Rivers politicians.

“Labour could not be bribed because labour has many affiliations all over the federation, how many of them could you bribe with 100 million naira, well those who are peddling these rumours are people of questionable character. They thought labour is like them. These people are people who do anything they do because of money collected from the sponsors. Labour could not go the way of these people.

On the statement credited to the Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Joseph Mbu, saying that he will clamp down on labour, he said, Nobody could shut labour down.

As many labour affiliations in the state will take to the street and that means economic activities will stand still. Nigeria will not want to try that from a sector of the Nigeria society.

He explained that after the CP made that statement, labour was invited for a meeting, adding that labour explained the true position of why it embarked on strike on behalf of Obio/Akpor workers.

After that meeting with the CP he has not made further statement about labour and labour too has not also made any statement against Rivers State police authority.

He warned those peddling such malicious rumours against labour to know that labour leaders are not politicians and would not be dragged into the murky waters of Rivers State politics.

Onuegbu added that when they will have problem, labour is still the last resort they run for help them. ###
