…As PDP, APC Members clashed

… Abonnema Community Deserted

An information recently our political desk revealed that Abonnema community, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State has been deserted following a bloody clash between the members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP and the supporters of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The cause of the clash was not known as at the time of filing in this report, but reliable sources told this weekly that some loyalists PDP in the area moved to stop people from participating on-going registration exercise of the opposition APC.

The action of the PDP members angered the APC supporters which sparked off the crisis. During the fight, dangerous weapons were freely used. Such as matchets, broken bottles, dagger and others.

According to our political correspondent, business and social activities became paralysed as the result of the clash. Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 38 persons from both political parties sustained serious injuries. As at the time of going to the press most of the injured party faithful are taking medical treatment in the neighbouring communities and some were also rushed to Port Harcourt. ###
