Tension In Phalga As Councilors Defect Back To PDP …As Belated Budget Hits Brick Walls

HON. AKAROLO CHIMBIKOTension is reportedly heightened in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) following the defection of some councilors back to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, last Monday in a stage managed sitting of the legislative council.

The sitting according to an insider source  was prompted as a result of The Newswriter report in its last edition; entitled Impeachment Threat: PHALGA Mayor On The Run.

The sitting was said to have ended in disarray as some councilors of the opposition, All Progressives Congress boldly renounced their membership  occasioned on the chairman highhandedness and the belief that the APC could not take anyone to the promised Land, the source said.

It was further gathered that a Sms transmitted by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Paago to councilors calling for a sitting came few hours after a careful study of The Newswriter’s publications by 9:30am on Friday which scheduled a sitting for last Monday. The massage reads “By leave of the leader, be informed that sitting resumes on Monday 31 March 2014”.

The message was a confirmation of the report that the leader was instructed against sitting since January 2014 by the Mayor for fear of the unknown.

Further information stressed that no matter the antics of the Mayor, Chimbiko Akarolo, more councilors are ready to publicly announce their defection in the next two weeks.

It would be recalled that this publication had earlier reported that 10 out of the 15 acclaimed APC councilors have perfected their chances for defection.

As two defected last Monday, about 8 are equally ready to join their colleagues in the PDP, within the next 14 days.

If our searchlight is bright enough, then we can authoritatively report that hard times await the Mayor, and his hypocritical councilors who could not contend the heat in the house few days to come.

Meanwhile, we have on good ground that the Mayor may present the 2014 budget of the Council during next sitting on the floor of the Legislative Assembly.

Indications within the Legislative Assembly, our political desk gathered may truly unravel the Mayor’s blindness over his alleged bad leadership.

The budget presentation and deliberation which the Mayor thought of carrying out same way his master, Governor Amaechi did with the state budget may be frustrated by the councilors, our political desk gathered.

While the questions on the lips of the councilors is whether April is the right time for budget presentation, the belated budget seems heightening the move for the Mayor’s Impeachment, an act that places the mayor between the devil and the deep blue sea.###
