Asalga: Illegal Allocation Of Community Land Causes Ripples

A former councilor representing Ward 9 in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Owanate Clinton West has condemned the way and the manner in which things are going on in the area.

Speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Saturday in Buguma, the ex-councilor stressed the importance and the essence of Local Government administration.

He recalled that Asalga which was created on the 16th day of May, 1989 with an headquarters at Buguma, the then Amanyanabo of Kalabari kingdom, HRM king Obaye Abbiye-Suku Amachree X, Buguma Council of Chiefs and Buguma Internal Affairs Society (BIAS) allocated some parcels of the community land to the council so as to build and site infrastructure.

Hon. Clinton West alleged that since the inception of the LGA from the era of Hon. Elder Eziwoke wokoma to the regime of Chief Hon. Aroloye Brown, the community has never experienced the distortion of the Buguma master plan.

The erstwhile councilor accused the council chairman, Mr. Ojukaye Flag Amachree of allocating the community land to himself, some of his councilors, brothers, lawmakers both in the state and federal, friends and political associates.

According to him, most of the beneficiaries have started building residential houses on the community land.

He said that if previous administrators have done that, Mr. Flag Amachree would not have met any space to build a market.

“Being a council chairman does not give him the impetus to allocate community land to people indiscriminately”, Hon. Clinton West said.

He expressed strong belief that those buildings on the illegal community land would be demolished or forfeit them when a responsible local government administrator comes on board. ###
