Ijaws Insist On Producing Governor In 2015

The youth wing of the Eastern Delta Peoples Association has declared that it is the turn of the riverine to produce governor of Rivers State in 2015.

The Ijaw youths made this known as a conference held in Port Harcourt at the weekend.

According to them, the Ijaws having peacefully participated and supported the emergence and government of Sir. (Dr.) Peter Odili for 8 years and another 8 years of Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the youths resolved that 2015 must witness the emergence of an Ijaw governor.

The youths called on all political parties to present an Ijaw gubernatorial flaybearer in 2015, adding that failure to do so shall attract a total rejection of such political party by the entire Ijaw nation.

They condemned in totality every Ijaw voice that clamours for governor from another ethnic group, adding that, “any Ijaw son or daughter that chooses to betray the best interest of the Ijaw nation in Rivers State and connives with other interest to deny the Ijaws the opportunity of producing the next governor of Rivers State shall be recognized and declared a traitor of the Ijaw nation in Rivers State”.

The theme of the conference was “Equity, equal opportunity and political leadership: Role of young people in Rivers State”.

The highlight of the occasion was presentation of lectures by eminent scholars such as Mrs. Mina Obanga and renowed sociologist, Dr. Sofiri Joab Peterside, while Prof. Owunari Georgewill was the chairman of the occasion. ###
