The royal Woopers relegation from the top division to the lower league is associated with poor performance on the part of Royal Woopers coupled with the state government inability to sponsor the team.
It would be recalled that Royal Woopers when privately managed had won the DSTV basketball league back to back which attracted the Rivers State government to bought the club over to be owned and sponsored by the Rivers State government.
Unfortunate enough, since the Amaechi administration bought the club, Royal Woopers had not gotten a sweet sail in the nation basketball league as the state government never care to support the club with fund.
It is sad enough to recount that Royal Woopers was made ordinary by the Amaechi administration as the club was not funded, couple in addition with her players being owed two (2) years salaries while still prosecuting the league on behalf of the Rivers State government.
Transport fare was always issue to Royal Woopers. The club failed to honour some of her matches due to lack of finance.
The Newswriter sport gathered that Royal Woopers have seven (7) graduates in it fold.
Most of the key players deserted the club for union bank of Lagos and other financially strong basketball clubs. It will take time to discover whether the club will forever stay in existence or face the exit door permanently. ###
