CARNIRIV Kicks Off 13th December In Port Harcourt…500,000 Participants Expected

Plans are on top gear by the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency, RSTDA to kick off the 2014 CARNIRIV.

The Director General of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency, Dr. Sam Dede made this known while in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Dede who recalled that the CARNIRIV came into existence in 1988, and that the ceremony will kick off from Saturday 13th – 20th day of December, 2014, adding that those expected to participate in the ceremony would not be fewer than 500,000 persons across the 23 Local Government Area.

Dr. Dede further revealed that this year’s Carnival theme is tagged “One love one people” pointing out that it means we are all united as Rivers people.

According to him, “We celebrate our oneness as people of great city in Nigeria, calm peaceful as we celebrate one passion for the arts of our culture and music.”

Dr. Dede further stressed that musicians and other top artists would participate at the event.

Dede who noted that this year’s carnival would be the most colourful and unique the state has ever had, as it will be the last Carnival, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of Rivers State will witness as his tenure in office will come to an end next year May 29, 2015.

He further stressed that the one week event will kick off on Saturday 13th December at the TBD 7pm with Miss CARNIRIV beauty pageant, pointing out that the focus was to introduce the beauty to the world, adding that the event will be colourful and interesting as it will be well packaged in feature that is well fair and riched.

Other programmes to be showcased in the event include: cultural arts exhibition, international aquatic fiesta, Ekere: rhythm of the tribes, praise jam, garden city free style parade, international heritage parade among others. ###
