“Thugs Beat Rivers NLC Boss”, Union Treasurer Alleged

The leadership of the Rivers State wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has faulted the claim that its chairman, Dr. Chris Oruge has been suspended from office.

Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt recently, the treasurer of the union, Mrs. Beatrice Itubo alleged that the Vice Chairman of the Rivers NLC, Comrade Prince Addah Williams hired thugs to harass and beaten up the chairman, Dr. Oruge and other members of the exco. She condemned the attitude of the Vice Chairman describing it as “illegal and anti-union behaviour” Mrs. Itubo, however denied the existence of any leadership tussle in the union, adding that, “Dr. Chris Oruge remains the authentic chairman of the Rivers NLC”.

She said that there was no time, the union suspended Dr. Oruge, and accused the Vice Chairman of romancing with politicians to destabilize the union in the state.

Mrs. Itubo concluded by saying that there was no document to indicate that Dr. Oruge was suspended by the Nigerian Union of Teachers.   ###
