BDAFA Provides 10 Premiership Players – TAMS

A seasoned ex-international and football promoter, Comrade Digbani Tams has revealed that Bille District Amateur Football Association has produced 10 premiership players for Sharks, Dolphins and Bayelsa United.

The grassroots football promoter and philanthropist, made this revelation while speaking with The Newswriter sports shortly after the Rivers State Referees Quadrennial Delegates conference at liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt on the 5th of December, 2014.

Comrade Tams is the patron of Sharks supporters club and patron of Obio/Akpor Referees Association an ex-international, said, the Bille District Amateur Football Association is a football competition organized by the Bille community in Delga, Rivers State once annually.

He further hinted that the 34 years old competition has produced ten premiership players for three Nigerian premiership sides, five (5) players for Sharks of Port Harcourt, three (3) for Bayelsa United and two (2) for Dolphins of Port Harcourt.

According to him, on the average the competition has nine (9) teams and last year, it registered eleven (11) teams. He noted that there was a time the competition registered twelve (12) teams.

As a ex-footballer, he decided to solely be incharge of the Bille community annual football competition for eight years now. When asked why he has taken over the sponsorship of the competition, he responded by saying, the passion he has for football and again as an ex-international made him took the decision.

He stressed that the reason of the competition is to create enabling environment to discover yearning budding football talents, adding that there are abundant football talents in our lands. And if they could be encouraged through competition like this, Nigeria will harvest abundant of football talents in the grassroots.

Tams started his football career as from the age of 10 in his primary school days in the 80s.

He disclosed that he was playing till his current employer employed him. He promised to assist any football talent whatever he could to see that they too become career men or women through their God given talent in sports. ###
