April 11 Poll: Rivers PDP Dares APC

Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, alleged on Monday in Port Harcourt that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was planning to stage a protest in the state capital to demand the postponement of Saturday’s election so that it could be conducted when General Muhammadu Buhari had been sworn in as President.

Assuring his supporters that his party will win, Wike said the elections slated for Saturday would hold.

He said: “Nobody can stop us from winning on Saturday. Let them (APC) be in charge of the Army, Navy or anything, they cannot win this election. If (Governor Rotimi) Amaechi likes, let him bring Secretary General of the United Nations (Ban Ki moon) or (Attahiru) Jega, the chairman of INEC, to conduct the election, APC will fail again on Saturday.

“They don’t want the election to be conducted until Buhari is sworn-in. It will not work. We must hold the election in Rivers State.”

The party also disagreed with Senator Magnus Abe, who represents Rivers South East senatorial district, over allegation that the party rigged the elections in his senatorial district.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Mr Felix Obuah, who spoke through his media aide, dismissed Senator Abe’s allegation as tissues of lies.

“The Rivers State chapter of PDP has asked the Senator representing Rivers South/East in the National Assembly, Senator Abe, to stop spreading falsehood in his bid to curry public sympathy.

“This unfounded allegation of thumb printing is only an emotional outburst of an aggrieved loser. The PDP is so firmly grounded in Rivers State, as in other parts of the South-South region, that it does not need to cut corners to win the election,” the party said.

The party asked Senator Abe to show the video proof of his allegation, stressing that it was part of allegations hurriedly put up by the APC against the PDP.
