Itubo Set To Build Rivers NLCA Secretariat

Mrs. Beatrice Itubo chairman of the Nigeria Congress (NLC), Rivers State Council said she has a plan to build a befitting secretariat for the Nigeria workers in Rivers State

In an interview with our reporter, the Rivers State NLC boss explained that her experience in medical and health workers union as chairman is different.

Her words: “I came in office as Chairman Medical and Health Workers, Rivers State without anything. We bought three plots of land and build a modern secretariat without levying any worker, today medical and health workers union is on board developmentally. But that of NLC, they have a land already bought by previous leaders at Trans Amadi”.

She stressed that before her tenure elapsed, she will build a befitting secretariat for NLC in Rivers State.

On raising fund for the project, the NLC Chairman noted that Captain of industries, philanthropists, and government will donate, and even on the day of foundation laying, fund will be donated and people will come to their aid.

Speaking with Journalist, Mrs. Beatrice Itubo commended the government for salaries of Rivers State workers being paid, adding that government should give sub-loan to workers for housing and car to improve their living standard.

Appealing to government she said a revolving loan scheme should be establish so that more workers will benefit. She noted that other states are threatens to slide down worrs salaries due to economic down fall of the nation, and pleaded that the state government should not slide their salaries.

She maintained that welfare of workers will be her priority as NLC chairman.

On her challenges as NLC chairman, Rivers State, she said, my major challenges are the Egoism, lack of purpose and partisan politicians.

She narrated that Labour Congress is a democratic Union where members of your union will nominate you and two other unions to be a leader and if you emerge as a leader, after your tenure, another person would come in.”

She noted that among the 42 affiliate members of NLC, four are not in Rivers State, out of the 38 that are in the state, over 34 are working with her. Mrs. Itubo cautioned those causing confusion in NLC and advised workers not to be carried away by distracters in the labour congress, stressing that unity of the body is her concern for more development. ###
