We “ll Keep You In Darkness, PHED Tells Borikiri Residents

There were uproar, abuses, accusation and counter accusation between the management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and residents of Borikiri in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

It was gathered that trouble started on Monday in a meeting between PHEDC and Borikiri residents when the said management told residents of Borikiri in the old Port Harcourt Township to stop paying illegal fees to disconnection team, saying that such payment should be channeled to obtaining metres for those who don’t have as the management shall not hesitate to put those who violated the order into total darkness.

One of the attendees of the meeting, who preferred anonymity alleged that PHEDC would keep the entire Borikiri into total darkness if the residents of Borikiri manhandle any of its field workers, who will disconnect any consumer that fails to pay bill because of the recent 2weeks power failure.

Meanwhile, one Hon. Operebia and others maintained that residents could not listen to PHEDC problems alone, adding that PHEDC should ensure proper power supply before any payment.

At the time of filling in this report, Borikiri residents are yet to enjoy power supply hence dash their decision either they are in the village or not.

Tension is said to be very high as while residents await power supply before payment of bill, PHEDC wants bill before supply power to the area. What the outcome of this impending crisis is yet unknown but residents are reportedly ambushing PHEDC officials should any funny thing prevails. ###
