The chairman and the entire exco of the marine Base plank shade have said that the Rivers State government has abandoned the famous ancient Marine Base plank shade to incessant fire incident.
The chairman of the plank shade, Mr. Daka Emmanuel S. together with some of his exco made the remark following the fire incident that occurred on the morning of Sunday from few minute to 3am 19th May 2016.
Speaking to our reporter the chairman of the plank shade said, he has reported the fire incident to the Nigeria police and expected government officials to show concern which he is yet to see.
According to Daka Emmanuel S. the fire destroyed goods worth three hundred million naira (N3,000,000).
In a chat with a resident of Iyo polo the land hosting the plank shade, who had lived there for 17 years disclosed to our reporter that “this is the eight (8) fire incident he had witnessed.
In a bid to ascertain and hear from the Commissioner of Special Duties, our reporter engaged the press officer of the Ministry in a chat as to know what measures government has towards curbing the incessant fire incident in Marine Base plank Shade, after our reporter had made fruitless effort to see the commissioner.
According to the press officer, government last year taught the traders of Marine Base plank shade how to take precaution as to avert fire incident, also how to use or apply fire fighting equipment in the case of fire incident which the chairman of the plank shade denied vehemently.
The chairman of the plank shade further revealed that the Rivers State government under former governor Amaechi proposed building a fence round the market and even pour clipping but never started it.
He said he is tired of the government attitude towards the fire incidents in plank shade.
The only thing he can say is, the Rivers State government has abandoned Marine Base plank shade to fire as it had no clear cut solution to end the unending woes of the plank shade traders. ###
