Okrika Chiefs Condemn Continuous Harassment of Ex-President Jonathan, Wife

Chiefs of Wakirike Bese have condemned strongly the several attempts to ridicule, harass and traumatize the ex-first family of Nigeria, their excellences, Dr, and Mrs. Goodluck Jonathan.

The Okrika chiefs came out with this at a press briefing in Port Harcourt at the weekend. The press statement entitled, “our position on attempts to ridicule, harass and traumatize the former first family Dr. and Mrs. Goodluck E. Jonathan”.

The Chiefs who spoke through Chief Sunday K.A. T. Kalaowolo JP, the chairman of the Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC) pointed out that every other former first family of Nigeria has not been disrespected, harassed, ridiculed, that has been the lot of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan an his Dr. Mrs. Patience.

The press statement reads thus, “For the avoidance of doubt, we firmly believe that nobody is above the law, just as we are also equally convinced that every Nigerian should be treated with decorum and respect in accordance with the law.  And there is no gainsaying that none can be more deserving of such civil consideration than former first families of our country”.

The Okrika Chiefs maintained that Nigeria owes ex-president Jonathan and his wife much more than they are given credit for. The Chiefs described ex-President Jonathan as selfless, patriotic and exemplary leader that handed over power in a truly democratic process in Nigeria in 2015, without any stress.

The press statement which was jointly signed by Chief Sunday K.A.T Kalaowolo JP, the chairman Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs, ODCC and 16 other chiefs, noted categorically that the law enforcement agencies have no moral justification for the constant harassment of the ex-President Jonathan and his wife, “moreso outside the ambits of due process and the rule of law”.

According to the chiefs, such unbecoming conduct of the law enforcement agencies is completely unacceptable to them. They further implored all concerned to be duly guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and desist forthwith any further attempts to deride, harass or traumatize ex-President Jonathan and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Patience.  ###
