Alleged Rape: Asalga Women Protest Against SARS

Women under the auspices of the Concerned Women of Asari-Toru Local Government Area (Asalga) of Rivers State stormed our newsroom, on Monday. The visibly angry women were received by our correspondent. Speaking the Concerned Women of Asalga who spoke through their leader, Mrs. Comfort Amachree alleged that, some officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS stationed in Buguma, the headquarters of the council have been sexually molested young girls.

She further told our correspondent that the SARS are not behaving responsibly, as they frequently terrorize the members of the community.

The Concerned Women of Asalga sadly pointed out that, with the attitude exhibiting by some officers of SARS, the LGA is no longer safe.

This weekly gathered that on Saturday both commercial and social activities within and around the Buguma Ultra Modern Motor Park were paralysed following the indiscriminately shooting of the officers and men of  SARS.

An eyewitness informed our Asalga correspondent that trouble started when an officer of SARS violently slapped a young girl for refusing to answer his call when he (officer) beaconed on her.

Information had it that with anger the girl also retaliated by slapping him back, adding that such action made the SARS became loose, and behaving like “mad dogs”.

“SARS should leave our girls alone. They are in Asari-toru Local Government to protect lives and property not to rape our girls”. Mrs. Amachree asserted.

The Concerned Women of Asalga called on the chairman of the Caretaker committee, CTC, Hon. Engr. Basoene Lolomari, the executive  Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike and the relevant authorities to intervene before SARS causes confusion in the LGA. ###
