Alliance Francaise Ends Session In Grand Style

The 2011 session of the Alliance Francaise in Port Harcourt, ended in a grand style as students from the Niger Delta region, teachers of French, and workers from other companies gathered at No 13 Azikiwe Road, to exchange pleasantries, and have a recap of the mission of the Alliance Francaise.
Monsieur Emmanuel Eymard, Director of the Alliance Francaise and the ambassador of the Niger Delta region representing the French embassy, re-affirmed his position and mission as regards French language learning and exchange of cultural values and ties between Nigeria and France.
According to him, “I was posted to Alliance Francaise, Port Harcourt in 2006 towards the end of the year. My job covers Rivers State, Uyo, Cross Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta States, among others. My duty is to promote the teaching of French language and help promote the positive cultural heritage of Nigeria as a nation in my area of jurisdiction. The French government has a very strong bond with Nigeria over the past decades: strong bond in economic, education, business, oil and gas, etc. Learning the language helps prospective job seekers to get employment in companies and other establishments. Having the knowledge of French gives you an edge over others”.
Monsieur Eymard further commended Nigeria for her rich cultural heritage.
He said Nigerian languages need to be preserved, hence the translations and production of Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, French dictionaries which the Alliance Francaise (representing the French embassy) supported and advocated for.
Speaking with The Newswriter, some of the invitees like Chambers Benibo, Nene Nwokekoro and Black Duke, said it was a delightful experience, nice and interesting.
“The event looks very extraordinary. We even wish it continues like this next year. The French are free minded people and love education as well as entertainment”, stated Churchill Abba and Immaculata Onuegbu, while David Chiady said it was a good Idea to share the Christmas season with French speaking friends.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the event were monsieur Marc Segret (Novotel), Monsieur Pierre Orosz (Amarante Nigeria), and Mr. Charles Jimoh (Novotel).
The highlights of the event were duet by Author Angela Inyena and Master Divinefavour Anietie in French, duet by Master Chidi Abba and Miss Chioma Abba and cutting of the end of session cake and buffet. ###
