Ministry To Sensitize The Physically Challenged

The Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation says it will partner with officials of different organizations to sensitize person living with disabilities in the State.
Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation; Hon. Jo Philip Poroma stated this yesterday in his office at a meeting with the executives of various organizations of persons living with disabilities.
Hon. Poroma said, it is the responsibility of his office to ensure that the wrong perception of the public about the physically challenge’ does not keep them from forging ahead with their lives; noting that their disability does not affect their mental capabilities.
He condemned the high rate of discrimination against them b the public, noting that anybody can be disabled at anytime and called on the public to treat them as normal human beings.
Responding, a member of the group, Bar. Sunny lkeagwu called on the State House of Assembly to enact a special legislation that will clearly define how Banks, Oil Companies, government agencies, public institutions and the public should treat them.
According to Bar, lkeagwu, the disability law will give them a better platform to be treated like humans in the society and thanked the Commissioner the passion to help them.##
