Facility Managers To Maintain Garden City Sports Centre

The Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Hon. Fred Igwe has said, proficient managers would be given the responsibility to maintain the facilities at the Garden City Sports Complex.
Speaking while inspecting on-going work at the 37 thousand hectare complex for sports, Hon. lgwe disclosed that the project when completed would be handed over to capable managers.
“We are calling on facility managers who have the capacity to manage facilities like this to indicate interest”.
He added that the June 2012 deadline for handover of the project to the Ministry will not be possible because of the magnitude of the job which allows for flexibility to ensure that the contractors give their best.
“You can see it is at the roofing stage. We have a new timeline now beyond June. We are looking towards the end of the year for handover,” Hon. lgwe declared.
He revealed chat the Ministry has already been receiving offers to host international competitions in the stadium but does not want to rush the contractors to avoid mistakes.
Meanwhile, football lovers and players in old Port Harcourt Township have a reason to smile as the Sports Commissioner has confirmed that No 6 field would be reconstructed for football lovers.
He said, the Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi has directed that the natural grass field be upgraded to a befitting standard for football lovers in the area.
It would be recalled that a select group and users of the field had complained about the dilapidated state of the field often used for community competitions and practice. ####
