RSG To BAN Street Skating

The Commissioner of Sports Rivers State Hon. Fred Igwe has disclosed that street skating in Port Harcourt will be banned for the safety of the lives of the youths who are neck deep into the dangerous trend of street skating.
Hon. Igwe made this disclosure while responding to questions posed to him by the sports editor of The Newswriter while on inspection of Adokiye Amiesemaka Sports Complex facilities in preparation for the 5th National Schools Sports Festival, which is on-going now.
According to him, street skating has no bearing in sports in this part of the world, and more so it is dangerous to the lives of the youths who are engaged in it.
However, he disclosed that before banning the street skating, his ministry would organize them into one family as different groups have started approaching him to recognize the sport in the state. “To this effect, the Rivers State sports ministry would first organize the different groups together and give the sport a decent out look where responsible skating could be given meaning where it could be competed for.
Speaking further, Hon. Igwe said that already someone who knows much about professional skating is having a talk with him as to partner with the State Sports Ministry for possible recognition of the sport, where talents could be discovered and encouraged for international competition. ###
