NUPENG, PENGASSAN Threaten Strike Over Refinery Road

Members of organized Oil and Petroleum Union PEGASSAN and Nupeng in partnership with TUC has threaten to embark on strike over the deplorable Eleme/Refinery Road.

In a text message by the state leadership of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Chika Onuegbu stated that members of Pengassan and Nupeng in partnership with TUC protested on 17th June over the deplorable state of the Eleme/Refinery Road.

According to the statement, the workers are worried that they spend about 10 hours each day to and from their work locations due to the bad condition of the road.

They therefore call on the Federal Government to immediately intervene and fix the road to avoid a full scale industrial action”.

The labour union have without hesitation wants the Federal Government to look into the plight of the workers of the oil companies using that road with human face.

According to some of the workers who spoke with The Newswriter the deplorable state of the road, had sent many to the hospitals and early grave. They also posited that workers loss reasonable work hours due to the deplorable condition of the road and would be happy if the Federal Government would be kind enough to put back the road into proper condition to enhance productivity for the state and the nation. ###
