Disruption of Iya Marriage: Abonnema Monarch In Fresh Trouble

The Amanyanabo of Abonnema Community in Akuku/Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH, Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel has come under heavy criticism following his directive to stop the Iya traditional marriage ceremony of Prince  & Mrs. Israel W. Dagogo.

The Abonnema monarch had penultimate Friday with the secretary of his Chiefs, Council; one Chief G.L.D. Ogidi Briggs reasons best known to them interrupted the Iya traditional marriage.

According to information reaching over newsdesk, the royal father who is the personal friend and counsel to one, Dr. Sardis W. Dagogo has constructed the acting secretary Chiefs’ Council not to communities the information of the Iya marriage to other members of the council.

When this weekly contacted the bride, Mrs. Dagogo, she said that her husband and herself were informed by some chiefs that they did not receive any information about the marriage until 4.00pm on Thursday a day to the marriage. Mrs. Dagogo alleged that she immediately approached the head. Chief of her compound, Chief Anthony OwerreDaba, who directed her to the Amanyanabo, saying that Chief Ogidi Briggs had informed him, (Chief OwerreDaba) that the monarch instructed the council not to conduct the Iya marriage.

Mrs. Dagogo said, “Myself and husband accompanied by Engr. Godwin Dagogo went to see the Amanyanabo at his residence in Port Harcourt. Where he informed us that he received a petition from Dr. Sardis W. Dagogo as regards to the Iya marriage. When are insisted to see a copy of the petition, the Amanyanabo referred us back to Chief Ogidi Briggs who allowed us to sight the petition and to our utmost surprise the petition was not sighed by Dr. Sardis Dagogo, but one Daibi W. Dagogo.

The youths from the family who spoke to our correspondent expressed their anger and blasted the king for acting on a petition not signed by a petitioner, “No wonder the king always stays with Dr. Sardis Dagogo whenever he visits U.K” one of the angry youths said.

The Newswriter signed a quit notice from the Amanyanabo’s legal firm that was issued on behalf of Dr. Sardis Dagogo which ordered Israel Dagogo, Godwin Dagogo and Bliss Dagogo to vacate their father’s land situate at No. 46 Akwuzu Street, Port Harcourt. In the said notice it was claimed that the land was given to Dr. Sardis W. Dagogo by their late father, Pa Wellington Karibi Dagogo in 1994.

“How can a man would offer a house as a gift to a son without informing his other 19 children? A family member asked rhetorically.

The family member condemned Dr. Daibi Dagogo’s attitude, describing it as embarrassing.

He said that Dr. Daibi Dagogo, a lecturer in the Rivers State owned University of Science and Technology in the past has dragged the image of the family into the mud.

The family member had earlier faulted, Dr. Sardis Dagogo for his insensitivity towards the welfare of his other relations. He condemned Dr. Sardis Dagogo for his non-challant attitude towards the dilapidated nature of his late father’s property at Jack’s Compound, Abonnema and 26 Ihutte Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

“Dr. Sardis has built his retirement in far away Ghana just because he does not want Daibi and the rest to trouble his immediately family,” the family member alleged.

“Afterall in the past 30 years Sardis and Israel have not been on speaking terms. Why is that Sardis going about telling people that Israel did not inform him of his Iya marriage? Did Sardis inform any member of the family when he ran away to the U.K to marry Lauretta? Didi Daibi inform Israel when he married his wife, Mercy? A family member asked.

He warned the Amanyanabo and Chief Ogidi-Briggs to stop tearing late Pa Willington Karibi Dagogo’s family apart.

The family member further appealed to Willy Moses Jack, and Increase Dagogo to avoid doing things that would ridiculous the image of the family.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sardis and Daibi summoned Prince and Mrs Israel Dagogo Jack before the Abonnema Council of Chiefs, last Friday. The duo (Dr. Sardis and Daibi) were disgraced. The chiefs in their wisdom ruled that neither Sardis nor Daibi have the right to interfere in the affairs of the couple as Israel presently in the Kaladokubo House testified that Dr. Sardis has always interfered each time anything good was coming his way. He further said that it is a fact that Daibi had at one time embarrassed Laurretta, the wife of Sardis, that was one of the reasons why Laurretta ran away to the UK with her husband and married him the way she liked.

The Chiefs said Prince and Mrs Dagogo Jack should fix a new date for the highest Kalabari Traditional Iya Marriage.

Engr Godwin Dagogo who spoke with our reporter said that he was not surprised Daibi could behave in this manner as anyone specialized in molesting opposite sex is capable of doing anything. Godwin Dagogo alleged that in 2002 he arrested Dr. Daibi Dagogo for wrong doing at No. 46 Akwuzu St, Mile One Diobu, Port Harcourt. That he (Daibi) was detained in Mile I, Police Station, and was about to be charged to court, but was intervened by his elder brother, Israel which saved him from prosecution.###
