2015: No Ogoni Governor, No Voting

As 2014 elections draw closer, the people of Ogoni in Rivers State under the umbrella Ogoni Solidarity Movement, say they would not cast their votes for any political party which fails to zone the 2015 governorship slot in the state to Rivers South East Senatorial District.

The people who spoke through the chairman of the group, Mr. Celestine Akpobari while in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, further disclosed that the group has concluded arrangement to ensure that election in Ogoni land conformed with the agreement reached by Ogoni people in 2015 governorship position in Rivers State.

Mr. Akpobari maintained that Ogoni people are not interested in the ongoing political crisis which according to him has become a threat and aimed at advancing the selfish interest of certain individuals with inordinate ambitions in the state.

He called on the politicians and other stakeholders in the state to focus on issues that would promote peace, good governance, leadership, free and fair elections, equity and justice in the state and federation.

He blamed the lingering political crisis on what he described as the “irresponsible, reckless, careless and frivolous” comments by politicians in the state for their own interest.

He regretted President Goodluck Jonathan’s refusal to implement the UNEP report in cleaning up Ogoni land. ####
