HOS Tasks New Perm. Secs. On Humility, Fairness

Rivers State Head of Service, Barr Samuel LongJohn has charged newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to be humble, fair and firm in the discharge of their duties.

Barr LongJohn gave the charge recently while declaring open a five day Induction Course organized by his Office for newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service.

He said the training was organized to acquaint them with the demand of their new office and to enable them carry out their functions optimally.

The Head of Service, who congratulated them on their appointments, assured them that the Coordinator of the programme and other Resource persons who are seasoned Civil Servants would impart the basic knowledge required of them.

He urged them to be patient and be prepared at all times as they may be called upon at short notice for the swearing in ceremony by the State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Lambert Ekwueme, who is also a retired Permanent Secretary said the training would enable them understand the fundamentals of their new position and also enable them render efficient and effective service as well as assist the Head of Service in ensuring a virile Civil Service.

He said, topics to be covered during the course of the programme include Basic Concepts of the Public Service Rules, Understanding the Rivers State Pensions Law, Relevance of Registry and Records Management, Relevance of Establishment Circulars, Managing Emotions and Building better Work Relationships and Communication in the Public Service with specific reference to Minutes, Memo and Letter Writing, among others.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service, Dr. Emmanuel Urang thanked the Head of Service for organizing the programme in spite of lean finances and urged them to take the training seriously.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, who are yet to be sworn in, include Mr. Amiefori Joseph, Ms Ibaniba Abella Briggs, Mrs Dasoba Marcus-Anga, Mr. Samuel Joram Egbe and Mr. Dagogo A. Hart.

Others are Mrs. A. E. Teetito, Mr. Austin Orlu-Orlu, Mr. Sam Woka, and Mr. Kingsley F. Hart.
