National Youth Service Corps members doing their primary assignment in Obuama Community in the Degema Local Government Area are now living in perpetual fear following brutal attack on some of them by suspected hoodlums in the community.
The Newswriter gathered that the community is no longer safe for the corpers.
The attack was targeted at the male corpers. The reason for the attack was not known at the time of filing in this report, but reliable source hinted this weekly that, a teenager, an indigene of the community was allegedly raped by four men including a corper.
The victim is a student (SS1) of the Community Secondary School, Obuama. According to an information reaching our crime desk, the victim was said to have been hypnotized using hard drug by the alleged rapists.
The victim, as we reliably gathered pointed accusing finger at a male corper and three (3) others. When the girl broke the sad news, numbering over fifty (50) members of the town stormed the Corpers Lodge and unleashed mayhem on them.
During the attack some dangerous weapons such as knives, broken bottles, sticks, amongst others were freely used on the corpers.
Most of the corpers fled to the neighbouring towns of Usokun, Okpo, Ilelema and other villages.
Two male corpers sustained serious injuries and they were later admitted in an undisclosed medical centre.
Shortly after the attack the girl suddenly made a u-turn and exonerated the male corper from raping her.###
