Ngo town, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area was agog last Friday as members of the newly appointed Care-taker Committee were sworn-in and charged to be prompt to duty and brace up to the challenges of diligently serving the people of the area.
The Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Hon. Ere Godwin Victor gave the charge while swearing in members of the caretaker committee at the council secretariat, as he stressed that maintenance of peace must be the hallmark of every member at the various wards as he admonished them to jettison working from Port Harcourt and commended them for the appointment.
Similarly, the newly sworn-in members were advised to be burden bearers of their constituents who look up to them, carry them along in the scheme of things.
The Head of Local Government Administration, HLGA, Mrs. Dagogo Jack who handed down the advice said members of the committee are the voice of their people and appealed to them not to disappoint or fail the people as they look up to them but always channel their difficulties to the chairman.
Responding on behalf of members of the committee, Dr. Godspower Irikana while thanking the Obolo people, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for giving them opportunity to serve, pledged never to disappoint them rather serve God and humanity, described the appointment as a stop gap measure to diligently serve the people.
Meanwhile, speaking at the side-line of the event, various reactions trailed the swearing-in of the Caretaker Committee.
Some of those who spoke to newsmen immediately after the swearing-in ceremony such as Mr. Ekene Mark, Salvation Unyeawaji, Gogo- Ogute Amon, Ifukibot Ataisi in their separate speeches said the constitution of Caretaker administration in the state particularly in Andoni was long overdue, claiming that without the services of a soothsayer it was obvious that the May 23 purported council elections in the state were worst than any child’s play and thanked the judiciary for remaining the hope of democracy.
The quartet also applauded the state governor, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike for being prompt and in his wisdom wiped away the fears and tears of the people at the grassroots.
Those sworn-in were Mr. Paul L. Paul, Barr. Owajiowor Gogo, Dr. Godspower Irikana, Mr. Theophilus Ataisigwung, Mr. Goodman Davies Ataebirien and Madam Patience I bi a mu.
The crowded event irrespective of its coincidence with swearing-in of commissioners of several commissions at the government house had several stake. holders in attendance. Some of them included, the secretary of the Andoni chapter of the PDP, lgnatius Bara, a former supervisor in the council, Chief Uwuikor J.H Offong, former Chief of Staff of the council, Chief Jones P.P Ogbolo, Charles Mbaba also a former supervisor, youth president, Comrade Mike Amakiri, had a onetime governorship aspirant, Richard Victor among others. ###
