Congratulations Gov. Dickson, But…
On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Henry Siareke Dickson as the winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election by defeating Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
By this declaration by INEC, Gov. Dickson is re-elected for four (4) years tenure. Before the January 9, 2016 supplementary gubernatorial election, the Bayelsans on the December 5, 2015 had gone to the polls to elect a governor, but INEC declared the elections inconclusive, due to widespread of political violence.
However, the Bayelsa State governorship election has come and gone and a winner emerged. It is our worry that properties worth millions of naira are destroyed and no fewer than thirty (30) persons lost their lives. Wide spread political violence occurred across the eight (8) LGAs of the state.
Now that Gov. Dickson had been re-elected for a fresh term in office, he should constitute a committee for reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation in the state.
We applaud the doggedness of the INEC to declare the Bayelsa gubernatorial results without fear or favour. Bayelsa INEC has played its role as an independent electoral Federal institution. Other national institutions should borrow a leaf from the INEC and perform their statutory functions effectively for the interest of the nation.
Let us use this medium to congratulate Gov. Dickson on his re-election and its our prayer that purpose of urgency; he should fulfill all his electioneering promises. Bayelsa is a coastal state, development should move to the riverine areas of the state. By doing this, Gov. Dickson will endear the Peoples Democratic Party PDP into the heart of the people and write his name with gold in the political history and development of the Bayelsa State.
For the purpose of the spirit of sportsmanship, Chief Timipire Sylva should congratulate Gov. Dickson; this is the only way that the Bayelsa will move forward. The era of politics with bitterness is over. ###
