The Nyewe-Ali of Igwuruta community in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH Eze (Prof.) Samuel Wekhe has applauded the Government of Rivers State for his recognising chieftaincy stool.
HRH Eze Prof. Wekhe was speaking at Omuodukwu community when the people rolled out their drums to honour him.
He commended the people for the honour done him and thanked God that there is no longer any chieftaincy tussle pending in court.
He assured the people that his reign will usher in the needed development in the Igwuruta community.
Speaking the CTC chairman of the community, Hon. Collins Wali recalled that since the demise of the former monarch, Late HRH Eze Benson W. Olocha in 1993, the tussle for the succession begins. He thanked God that the issues have been resolved and the Rivers State government has recognized Prof. Samuel Wekhe as the Nyeweli Ali Igwuruta.
Hon. Wali attributed the struggle for the succession to ignorance of historical facts, adding that the stool of Nyewe Ali Igwuruta is an ancient kingship stool in the Ikwerre land.
Commenting on the issue that the government under Chibuike Amaechi did not do anything on the community, Hon. Wali said that the past administration performed creditably in the Igwuruta community, highlighted the Great Port Harcourt City project construction of Health centres, building of primary schools and laudable several other projects.
In his remarks, Sir Dr. Amb. Godwin N. Nwanwa described the Igwuruta monarch as an epitome of idea and development.
He expressed hope that the king will reposition the Igwuruta community for good. ###
